This aerial panorama of Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States, was taken by James Blakeway. The 555-foot obelisk is the Washington Monument, one of D.C.’s most recognizable landmarks. It stands at the top of the National Mall, is flanked by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial to the far left, the U.S. Capitol to the far right and the Smithsonian Institution in the lower right corner. Moving left of the Washington Monument is the National WWII Memorial, with the Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial. Looking towards the top right of the Washington Monument is the White House, official residence of the President of the United States. In the upper left is the Pentagon, headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense.
