Text on Panorama:
This panorama, taken by James Blakeway, spotlights the beautiful downtown Seattle, Washington, skyline at twilight. As a coastal seaport and major U.S. gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is situated on a narrow isthmus between Puget Sound (an arm of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington. Centered in the photo, and a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest, is the 605-foot Space Needle, which was built for the 1962 World’s Fair. Moving to the right and in the distance is majestic Mount Rainier at 14,411 feet. It is the tallest peak in the Cascade Mountain Range. The body of water to the far right is Elliott Bay, connecting Seattle to the Pacific Ocean.
