Text on Panorama:
This panoramic photograph of Saint Louis was taken by James Blakeway and features the downtown skyline as seen from the east side of the Mississippi River in Illinois. Most prominent in the skyline is the Gateway Arch at Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The 630-foot Gateway Arch is Saint Louis' tallest structure and symbolizes Saint Louis' role as the "Gateway to the West." Visitors can ride to the top of the Arch to enjoy spectacular views of Saint Louis from an observation deck that has windows for viewing to the east and west. Saint Louis is one of the oldest settlements west of the Mississippi River and was founded in 1764.
