This panoramic photograph was taken by James Blakeway and features a twilight view of downtown Philadelphia as seen looking across the Delaware River. To the right is the Ben Franklin Bridge, a suspension bridge connecting Philadelphia and Camden, New Jersey. The tallest building centered in downtown is Liberty Place and to its right is Mellon Bank Center with its brightly lit roof. Philadelphia was first founded in 1682 by William Penn, an English Quaker. The city grew rapidly, becoming the second-largest English-speaking city in the world just prior to the American Revolution. Philadelphia contains many historic sights of early American history.
