Text on Panorama:
This panoramic photograph of downtown Frankfurt was taken by James Blakeway. It features a twilight view of downtown Frankfurt with the Main River on the left. Centered in the photo is Frankfurt's tallest building, the Commerzbank Tower. The building with the white lit, crown-shaped top is the Krone Hochhaus. The Romans founded Frankfurt in the first century AD. It was the virtual capital of Germany from 1816 to 1866 and is now an industrial, commercial, financial and transportation center. During World War II (1939-1945), the city was badly damaged by bombing but has since been rebuilt into one of the world's great international cities.
