This panorama, taken by Christopher Gjevre, showcases the East Carolina Pirates victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels in front of a record crowd of 51,082 fans, in their inaugural year with the American Athletic Conference. Game days at ECU are one of the most unique atmospheres in all of college football. The social event of tailgating… the purple smoke filled team entrance… raising the ECU Jolly Roger in pregame… a unified stadium chanting “First Down Pirates”… and raising the ECU No Quarter flag to start the 4th quarter. The pageantry of Purple and Gold passion and spirit surrounding Bagwell Field at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium is a distinctive ECU Pirate Tradition.
